The workshop would focus on writing for theater as a political,
experimental and collective space.
Ali will be using 2 methodologies :
The technical method and the spontaneous method of the body movement within its own tools. We will focus on the memories of the body and the private baggage of the individual and his/her own quality of movement.
The workshop will be based on 3 main parts :
The warm up: stretching, warm up for the muscles, how we function our muscles effort?
The methods of using our physical effort in a dance sequence.
Mental warm up through concentration exercises and coordination of movement...
Second part: physical warm up and rhythm, through creating a series of repetitive movements based on a stable rhythm, followed by improvisations based on tools that will be given by the trainer.
3rd part: the pure technical part, that includes the way of using the weight of the body and moving it in the space, in addition to the method of controlling the pelvis, being the center of the body. This phase will conclude by the creation of a choreography based on tools and material used before during the workshop.
This training workshop provides artists with a unique opportunity to deeply explore the relationship between their own bodies and the characters they embody on stage. It involves a complete immersion of the artist in the anatomy of their body and their posture, aiming to develop a distinctive signature and maintain consistency in their interpretation throughout the performance.
By freeing themselves from the text and relinquishing any reliance on speech, artists are encouraged to organically shape their characters within the theatrical space, thus finding a path to structure their narrative. Exercises in movement anatomy, inspired by the principles of Eutony—a approach seeking harmony between body and mind—are employed to enable the artist to find their own respiratory rhythm and integrate their psychological dimension into their performance.

With an increased awareness of our body and of our senses as a starting point, the workshop will lead us to explore and perceive differently our movement and our presence and start to elaborate our own vocabulary. Through different experimentations, object manipulations and body interactions, the workshop is an invitation to move and travel in the many relations to others, to the space, to the objects, as partners... and in this playfulness, open inner spaces and allow a metaphorical language to emerge. An occasion to explore the stage as a poetic landscape .
An invitation for creative artistic research and practice through movement and voice. The workshop will offer the space to deepen connections to the body while exploring the full potential of the voice and the capacity to integrate a myriad of colours and techniques. We will also dive into voice performance as a medium of expression allowing the imagination to unfold through improvisations and instant compositions revealing the complexity of this powerful instrument in relation to our bodies; harnessing possibilities for theater and for daily life.
What is theatre today? A tool for social change? A space for critical imagination? A space for entertainment? A place to present plays? A part of the public realm? How can we negotiate our collapsed and crisis shaped present? How can we live and work in the society of open crimes?
The "Presence" on stage is a kind of magic that the actor creates by developing his techniques: Voice, Body, Rhythm, Energy, Being Here and Now, Becoming The Words that he's interpreting.
The upcoming sessions with participants will zoom in on the pressing issues faced by theater practitioners in Beirut. The participants and Khalil will  be delving into these challenges to explore fresh ways of approaching artistic production in theater, moving away from the usual methods.  The Sessions would aims at hearing what participants think about the theater scene in Beirut and create a space where ideas and opinions can freely flow. Additionally,  the sessions will  be looking at how certain plays or performances have impacted audiences, which should spark creativity and imagination among participants. The  main goal is to provide a safe space where everyone can openly share their thoughts and perspectives.
In this workshop Participants will:
- Deepen their self-knowledge.
- Identify desired change, and take steps (using creative processes) towards integrating change.
- Expand their internal role repertoire and practice new roles and desired behaviors in a supportive environment.
The workshop is an introductory course to the basics of improvisational theater. Improvisation, in theatre, is the playing of dramatic scenes without written dialogue and with minimal or no predetermined dramatic activity.
How to materialize an abstract idea?
how to Make an idea concrete?
Metamorphosis of the body, via costume and accessories.
an immersive exploration into the world of theatre project development. Our sessions are designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the ideation and research processes crucial to the creation of impactful theatrical experiences. The program consists of a collective webinar followed by personalized one-on-one technical sessions, offering participants the opportunity to delve deeper into their project ideas with expert guidance.
How to creatively use sound technology in theater.
Introduce the participant to the technical side of light design (Electricity, Dimmers & Dmx, Mixers, Cables…)
The workshop puts into the light how costume designers/stylists for plays find many different ways to make the characters shine with their best dress codes for different scenes in a play.
The workshop is practical and theoretical. Every maqam in oriental music has a special atmosphere and feeling. In this workshop, we ai, at learning how to understand the different maqamat from a theoretical and practical perspective through some vocal exercises.
The presence of the light designer in a performance assumes the presence of his/her personal narrative. This workshop involves a series of attempts to search for the designer’s personal story in the lights he/she creates. It encourages the participants to transform personal narratives into light.
Alaa, a Dutch-Lebanese-Palestinian artist based in Amsterdam, started his career as a light designer and scenographer then shifted towards making his own installations and performances. In his practice, Alaa tries to explore the possibilities of merging installation and performing arts. He also tries to involve the audience, not only as active participants, but rather as an integral element in the structure of the performance, for that Alaa diminishes the role of the performer and highlights the presence of the spectator. Subjects like belonging, presence, absence, arab-futurism, wars, traumas, and healing were tackled within alaa minawi's works.
He is the founder & Program Director of the "Beirut Summer School for Theater & Performance". His artwork "my light is your light..." is registered in the Unesco year of light.
